آزمایشگاه ژنومیکس و اپی‌ژنومیکس علاقه‌مند به شناسایی و دست‌ورزی ژن‌های دخیل در ایجاد صفات با ارزش تجاری در مدل‌های گیاهی و میکروبی می‌باشد. به این منظور از روش‌های پربازده (High-throughput) جهت شناسایی ژنهای کاندید استفاده شده و سپس با ابزارهای ویرایش ژنوم، ارگانیسم‌های دست‌ورزی شده با عملکرد بهینه‌تر ایجاد می‌شوند.

در حال حاضر تمرکز آزمایشگاه بر روی پروژه‌های زیر می‌باشد:

  1. شناسایی ژنهای کلیدی دخیل در بروز فتوسنتز C4 به منظور تغییر استراتژی فتوسنتز گیاهان زراعی استراتژیک نظیر برنج از C3 به C4.
  2. ایجاد سویه های صنعتی باسیلوس سوبتیلیس با استفاده از تکنیک ویرایش ژنوم CRISPR/Cas9 به منظور تولید آنزیم‌های ارزشمند صنعتی.
  3. شناسایی مکانیسم عمل گیاهان دارویی ضد دیابتی و بهبود عملکرد آنها از طریق مهندسی متابولیسم.
  4. مهندسی آنزیم برای ایجاد آنزیم‌های پایدار قابل استفاده در شرایط صنعتی به منظور ترسیب کربن.
